Mitigasi Konflik Gajah Sumatera (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus) Di Sekitar Taman Nasional Bukit Tiga Puluh
ABSTRACT
The conflict between elephants and humans that occurs every year around the Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park is caused by people clearing land around the area that used to be an elephant roaming area. This study aims to determine the causes of conflict between elephants and humans and how the mitigation is implemented by the community. This research was conducted in July-August 2022 in Batu Ampar Village, Lahai Kemuning Village and Semambu Village using interview methods and observation of damage marks. Determination of informants through snowball sampling with village heads and community leaders as key informants. The cause of the conflict between elephants and humans around the Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park is that there is land clearing by the community and there has been a reduction in the food available in the forest. The mitigation applied by the community in Semambu Village was more optimal than Batu Ampar Village and Lahai Kemuning Village because there were more conflicts in these villages. Mitigation of elephants and humans conflicts implemented by the community, namely driving away with sounds, lighting bonfires, making natural fences from plants that elephants don't like, planting elephant grass around community land and forest boundaries and using electric fences.
