ABSTRACT
The rapid development of the city will lead to an increase in community activities, as a result the movement on the highway will be higher. Busy and dense urban activities require people to act quickly and even tend to be careless when crossing the highway, this of course threatens the safety of pedestrians. So the pedestrian community is required to use the road and take advantage of the facilities that have been provided. The rapid development of increasingly sophisticated technology has made the government more aggressive in facilitating the community with sophisticated facilities as well. This is done as an effort to reduce traffic accidents between motorists and pedestrians. For this reason, the Pekanbaru City Transportation Service has installed several crossing light facilities called Pelican Crossing in several corners of the city. Pedesterian Light Controlled Crossing (Pelican Crossing) itself is a crossing light facility that adapts the function of ordinary red lights. What distinguishes it is Pelican Crossing is equipped with a button that can be pressed directly by pedestrians if they want to cross. For the effective implementation of a program, it is necessary to disseminate information to the community. The Traffic Engineering Management Section of the Pekanbaru City Transportation Service is one of the agencies that plays an important role in conducting socialization activities for the Pelican Crossing facility in Pekanbaru City. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach where the data collection techniques used are interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this study are data reduction, data presentation, and closed with conclusions. . The results of the research in the field stated that the socialization carried out by the Traffic Engineering Management Section of the Pekanbaru City Transportation Service was not optimal, it was because there were still many people who did not know and understand the Pelican Crossing. If the socialization is carried out optimally, it will have a good influence and will also create a culture of orderly traffic for road users, especially in Pekanbaru City with this Pelican Crossing facility.
