Pra-Rancangan Pabrik Vinyl Chloride Monomer Proses Acetylene Hydrochlorination Dengan Alat Utama Reaktor Fixed Bed Multitube (R-102)
ABSTRACT
Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) is a primary raw material in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), widely used across various sectors such as automotive, construction, and household applications. The demand for VCM in Indonesia continues to rise annually, yet a significant portion is still met through imports. To reduce import dependence and support domestic industrial growth, a vinyl chloride plant is designed with a production capacity of 89,700 tons/year, located in the Balaraja Industrial Zone, Banten. The main raw materials used are acetylene and hydrogen chloride (HCl), with the core process being a hydrochlorination reaction carried out in a cooled fixed-bed multitube reactor. Product purification is achieved through cryogenic distillation to obtain 99% purity VCM. The design includes technical, economic, and social aspects such as job creation and increased national foreign exchange. The feasibility study indicates that the project is viable and has the potential to support Indonesia’s chemical industry independence.
