ABSTRACT
Heavy metal pollution such as lead (Pb²⁺) in industrial waste is a serious environmental problem because it is hazardous and toxic which can disrupt human health and ecosystems. This study aims to determine the effect of temperature and adsorption time on the adsorption capacity and effectiveness of lead ion adsorption using activated charcoal adsorbent from corn cobs that have been activated with 0.1 N NaOH solution. The manufacture of activated charcoal involves carbonization and chemical activation processes, then its characteristics are tested based on SNI 06-3730-1995. The adsorption process is carried out with temperature variations of 40°C and 50°C and contact times of 10, 20, 30, and 40 minutes. The concentration of Pb²⁺ ions after adsorption was analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The results show that corn cob activated charcoal has characteristics that meet the standards, with a water content of 6%, ash content of 6%, and iodine adsorption capacity of 1211.895 mg/g. The maximum adsorption capacity for Pb²⁺ ions was achieved at 0.4281 mg/g at a temperature of 50°C and a contact time of 40 minutes, with an adsorption effectiveness reaching 92.67%. In conclusion, corncob activated carbon activated with 0.1 N NaOH significantly reduced Pb²⁺ ion levels. This indicates that increasing the temperature to the optimum point and extending the contact time can increase adsorption capacity.
