Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Diphenyl Carbonate Proses Polimeri/Lummus Dengan Desain Alat Utama Distilasi Reaktif Difenil Karbonat (R-201)
ABSTRACT
Diphenyl Carbonate (DPC) is a carbonate ester compound with the chemical formula (C6H5O)2CO which plays a role in the manufacture of Polycarbonate (PC) resin. DPC is used in the synthesis of organic compounds, polymers, solvents, and plasticizers. DPC is an important and non-toxic raw material in the PC industry. The PC production process, which generally involves hazardous and toxic raw materials, demands a more efficient and environmentally friendly production process. Environmentally friendly DPC is produced through a polyimeri/lummus process with Reactive Distillation (RD) technology. In 2022 the global DPC market reached US$ 4.18 billion with a revised forecast size of US$ 5.97 billion by 2029 and a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) growth of 8.05% during the period 2023-2029.
The DPC plant was established in Pangkalan Sesai, West Dumai District, Dumai City, Riau Province with a production capacity of 90,000 tons/year. The DPC plant requires utility water of 547,422.04 Kg/Hour, steam of 10,057 Kg/Hour, electrical power of
317.22 kW/Hour, and boiler fuel in the form of LNG of 1,333.16 L/Hour. The plant waste is treated with activated sludge process.
The designed DPC plant showed economic analysis results with Total Capital Investment (TCI) of Rp4,113,620,325,435.06; Cost of Manufacturing (COM) of Rp3,336,607,141,907.03; and Working Capital (WC) of Rp685,603,387,572.51. Product sales are estimated at Rp5,857,200,000,000.00 per year. From the profitability analysis, the Net Present Value (NPV) value of Rp2,580,726,220,873.68 was obtained with a discount rate of 16%, Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 28.96%, Breakeven Point (BEP) at 35% production capacity, Payback Period (PBP) for 6.72 years (6 years 9 months), and Return of Investment (ROI) of 56.48%. Based on the profitability analysis, the DPC plant design is feasible to establish and shows a good investment.
