Etnografi Komunikasi Dalam Tradisi Thugun Mandi Di Desa Pelangko Kecamatan Kelayang Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu Provinsi Riau
Thugun mandi tradition is hereditary tradition carried people in the Pelangko village on seven days old baby to do thugun mandi in the river bank or the yard of a house with the village shaman. This tradition also as an expression of parents’ gratitude to Allah SWT. The purpose of this study was to determine the communicative situation, communicative events and communicative acts of the thugun mandi tradition in the Pelangko village.
The methode used in this research was qualitative method and used the theory of ethnography of communication. The informan in this research is the shama, indigeneous stakeholders, and others public figure. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, and documentation.
Based on the research results show that communicative situations of thugun mandi do in parent’s house and invited guests. The types communicative of thugun mandi include of greeting, request, rhymes, prayers, and spells. The topic of thugun mandi is gratitude expresses to Allah SWT. The purpose and function in the thugun mandi are to introduce babies and expect the blessing of Allah SWT. The participants are all family members, traditional authorities, religious leaders, village shaman and society. Form of a messages are verbally and nonverbally. Thugun mandi message that the baby is always protected by Allah. The sequence of baby bath on thugun mandi is carried by the shaman until the closing of celebration. There a rule of interaction when inviting public to participate during the celebration. The norms are politeness, respect, religiously and custom values. The Communicative in thugun mandi that a person who leads the event must have the skills and understand the norms and values on the thugun mandi tradition.
