Representasi Perlawanan Rasisme Dalam Film Green Book Karya Peter Farrelly
The case against blacks in America has attracted a lot of attention to
researchers. Because those who are victims of discrimination from white people.
Society in America is difficult to assimilate black people, because of the beginning
of their arrival, known as slaves and second class society, so that stereotypes stick
and become ideology for white people. Therefore, it took a long time for blacks to
fight for their status as free citizens. The world of international cinema is again
being presented by a drama genre film, a comedy biography produced by Dream
Works Picture entitled "Green Book" which tells the story of the life of a black
pianist in fighting racism in South America. This study aims to determine the
meaning of denotation, connotation and myth in the Green Book film and to find
out the representation of racism resistance that is featured in the Green Book film.
This research uses qualitative research with Roland Barthes' semiotic
analysis. The research subjects were the scenes in the Green Book film. The
objects in this study are the Audio and Visual film Green Book. In this study using
Observation Data Collection Techniques, Documentation and Literature Study.
To achieve the validity of the data in this study the authors used triangulation.
The results of this study indicate the denotation meaning contained in the
Green Book film based on what is shown directly in the film. The connotative
meaning of the analysis results regarding the implied meanings contained in the
scene, as well as the hidden meanings that are hidden behind what is shown in the
film. The semiotic myth contained in the Green Book film is an ideology,
stereotype and also a problem that occurs in the life of black people in America
based on historical studies derived from certain literature and articles. The
Representation of Opposition to Racism in the Green Book Film shows that an
ideology or stereotype that has developed in society for a long time will be very
difficult to change their perspective and thinking, especially those with a history
related to black people.
