Analisis Resepsi Body Shaming Dalam Film Imperfect
Film Imperfect is a film that raises the issue of Body Shaming in
Indonesia which is currently hot. Film Imperfect tells the figure of Rara who
has a fat body, dark skin who works at a beauty company and often gets body
shaming. Film Imperfect reaped many achievements, starting from getting the
second most viewers in 2019 to prestigious awards such as the Maya Award
and Citra Award as the best film adaptation but in line with the issues raised
by this film. Audiences who watch the film Imperfect will bring out meanings
according to their cultural and social backgrounds. This study aims to
determine the position of viewers' dominant reading, negotiated reading and
oppositional reading of Body Shaming in the film Imperfect.
This research is a descriptive qualitative research with a constructivist
paradigm that focuses on Stuart Hall's reception analysis which focuses on
encoding and decoding using purposive techniques to determine informants.
The data obtained by means of a process of observation, in-depth interviews
and documentation with seven informants. The data analysis technique used is
the reception analysis which consists of data collection, interpretation and
reception. While the technique of checking the validity of the data uses
tringulation.
The first research result is that all informants accept and agree with
what Body Shaming is conveyed in the film Imperfect with different
backgrounds, five of the seven informants are victims who experience Body
Shaming. Second, some informants have the meaning of accepting or agreeing
to the messages given in the film Imperfect but giving an exception (negotiated)
and rejecting messages (oppositional) from some of the messages of Body
Shaming in the film Imperfect based on the references they have, such as the
film Imperfect has not been able to prevent the occurrence of Body's actions.
Shaming and illogical actions of environmental characters. The difference in
how informants perceive body shaming in the film Imperfect is due to several
factors, namely age, education, experience and culture..
