Evaluasi Penilaian Kondisi Jalur Pedestrian Menggunakan Metode Walkability Di Kawasan Pendidikan Dan Perkantoran (Studi Kasus Kawasan Gobah)
ABSTRACT
This study aims to evaluate the condition of pedestrian pathways in the
Educational and Office Area of Gobah, Pekanbaru, using the Global Walkability
Index (GWI) method. This method assesses walkability levels based on nine
parameters, including conflicts with other modes of transportation, availability of
pedestrian facilities, crossing safety, and supporting infrastructure. The study
area is divided into four main zones, namely: educational areas around MAN 2
Pekanbaru (1), SMK N 2 Pekanbaru and Universitas Riau (2), SMA N 8
Pekanbaru (4), and the office area surrounding the Riau Regional Police (Polda
Riau) and the Department of Fisheries and Marine Affairs (2), with a total of 15
segments, most of which are located in the educational zones (13). The results
show that the overall walkability index in the Gobah Area of Pekanbaru is 48.003,
which falls into the "not walkable" category. Two zones were identified as
critically problematic, namely Zone 1 and Zone 3. The parameter analysis
revealed diverse conditions of pedestrian facilities across the study area. The
most critical zone, Zone 3 (Universitas Riau), showed particularly low scores in
the following parameters: conflict between pedestrians and other transportation
modes (36%), crossing safety (36%), driver behavior (40%), facilities for people
with disabilities (20%), and obstacles/barriers (24%). Based on these findings,
several improvement recommendations are proposed. These include relocating or
removing street vendors and informal parking from pedestrian paths, installing
adequate lighting, providing bollards to prevent illegal parking, and repairing
damaged pedestrian paths. In particular, the poor physical condition of sidewalks
remains a major concern. These improvements are expected to enhance comfort,
safety, and accessibility for pedestrians, while also encouraging a shift toward
non-motorized modes of transport in the Gobah Area of Pekanbaru.
