A Study On The Ability Of The Second Year Students Of MTS Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru In Writing Descriptive Texts

This study is intended to find out the ability level of the second-year students of MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru in writing descriptive texts. This study concerns five aspects of writing: grammar, vocabulary, mechanics, organization, and content. The data collection technique is a writing test. The students' writing results are checked and scored by the rater. The research findings are as follows: first, the second-year students' ability to write descriptive texts is at a good level, with an average score of 78.81. Second, the student's average score in terms of organization is 17.12, content is 16.21, mechanics is 16.27, vocabulary is 15.30, and grammar is 13.90. Based on these findings, it is found that grammar is the most challenging that the students face in writing descriptive texts. All in all, findings show that the second-year students of MTs Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru have a relatively good level of writing descriptive texts. However, they need to practice more in writing a text to better their study.
