An Analysis Of Code Switching In Novel The Proposal Of Love By Mayya Adnan
The purpose of this descriptive study was to discover the types of code switching employed by the characters in dialogues, as well as the reasons why characters in the novel The Proposal of Love change their language from Indonesia language to English. The information was examined using two methods: descriptive analysis and documentation analysis. The data analysis revealed that characters in the novel perform three types of code switching: tag switching, inter-sentential switching, and intra-sentential switching. Tag switching occurred 7 times, inter-sentential 31 times, and intra-sentential 25 times. Furthermore, the reasons that caused the characters in the story to change their language were expressing group identity 28 times, talking about a particular topic 18 times, emphatic 9 times, and repetition used for clarification 7 times. Previously, the researchers had separated 62 code switching data into word forms in the form of phrases and sentences.
