ABSTRACT TEACHER INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS IN INCREASING LEARNING MOTIVATION IN STATE SCHOOL 34 SINGGALANG PROVINCE OF WEST SUMATERA By: Ahmad Suwandi Supervisor: Dr. Tantri Puspita Yazid, S.I. Kom., MA State Elementary School 34 Singgalang is located at the foot of Mount Singgalang, which coincides in Jorong Luhung, Jl. Lubuk Mata Kucing, Singgalang, Kec. Ten Koto, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra Province. Despite its limitations because it is located in a rural area, this school is still able to have several achievements, including 1st place in the sepak takraw competition in the district of flatland, the champion of the vocal group in the district of flatland in the context of Clean and Healthy Living Habituation (PHBS) and also the winner of the marathon at the X Koto sub-district level. . But besides that there are still students who lack motivation in learning such as there are still skipping school and some even do not take the final school exam. Therefore, the teacher uses interpersonal communication to further increase the learning motivation of the students. The purpose of this study was to determine the openness, empathy, support, positive feeling, and equality of teachers to students and parents during the learning process at SDN 34 Singgalang. This study used qualitative research methods. The subjects in this study were teachers, students, and parents of SDN 34 Singgalang students who were selected using a purposive technique. Data collection techniques consist of observation, interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique used in this research is participation extension and triangulation. The results showed that the openness of teachers at SDN 34 Singgalang was good because the teacher had created a situation of openness to students and parents, namely in the form of exploring nature and exercising together and with parents, namely consultation when receiving student report cards. The teacher's empathy for students and parents is in the form of understanding students better, because they come from different backgrounds and the same goes for parents. The support provided by teachers to students and parents is in the form of home visits to students who often skip school and invites students to change and want to go to school again, of course with the help of parents, this has a positive impact on students and also parents. The teacher's positive feeling towards students includes giving awards/gifts to students who excel, this of course can spur all students to excel too, and if the parents remind students to supervise the student's learning process at home. The equality between teachers and students is in the form of exercising together and exploring nature together, this can make the teacher and students closer, of course, so students are not too awkward with the teacher, if with parents, that is to communicate well. The results of this study can be used as a reference material for SDN 34 Singgalang to increase learning motivation for students.
