In learning Japanese there are four language skills or known as yonginou
'four skills' that must be possessed by learners. These four skills provide an
opportunity for anyone to be able to create the right context in an information
exchange. Mastering the four language skills will also increase one's selfconfidence.
However, it is not uncommon for someone to experience anxiety
when speaking. Anxiety experienced into three levels of anxiety, high level of
anxiety, moderate anxiety and low level of anxiety.
The measuring instrument used to measure the level of anxiety is the
Foreign Language Speaking Anxiety Scale (FLSAS). The method used in this
research is the distribution of questionnaires and observation. The questionnaire
used was adapted from Balemir. The observation sheet used was adapted from
Nevid. Anxiety experienced by students can also be seen from the physical
symptoms shown by students. To see the physical symptoms experienced by
students, observations were made on students. Anxiety experienced by students
will affect students' speaking ability or performance.
From this study, the anxiety experienced by Japanese language
education students batch 2020 was at a moderate level of anxiety. The symptoms
most often experienced by students are unfocused gaze, avoiding eye contact,
