Peranan Sultan Muhammad Ali Muazzamsyah Dalam Mendirikan Kota Pekanbaru (1765-1779)
The name Pekanbaru was formerly known as Senapelan. The
development of Senapelan is very close to the Kingdom of Siak Sri Indrapura.
The Siak Kingdom is a religious kingdom which is a continuation of the Johor
Kingdom which is divided into two regions, one of which is the Siak Kingdom
founded by Sultan Jalil Rachmad Shah known as Raja Kecik. The existence of
Pekanbaru City (the capital of Riau Province) cannot be separated from the role of
Sultan Muhammad Ali Abdul Jalil Muazzamsyah whose title is Marhum Pekan in
establishing this city. From a simple village (Kebatinan Senapelan) to the capital
of the Siak Kingdom and now a Metropolitan city. During Sultan Muhammad
Ali's tenure in charge of Kerajan Siak, he built the Senapelan Country and gave
the city a new name with the name Pekanbaru. To find out the background of the
life of Sultan Muhammad Ali Muazzamsyah. And to know the role of Sultan
Muhammad Ali Muazzamsyah in establishing Pekanbaru made Senapelan a
trading center. This research is a study that seeks to reconstruct the role of Sultan
Muhammad Ali Muazzamsyah in establishing Pekanbaru City (1765-1779)
considering that events that occurred in the past, the method used is a historical
method with steps, namely Heuristics, Verification, Interpretation and
historiography. Tengku Muhammad Ali is still the Sultan of Johor who was taken
from the descendants of his grandfather, King Kecik. During the time of Tengku
Muhammad Ali he built the Market/Week until a city was established.
