Penerapan Pendekatan Contextual Teaching And Learning (CTL) Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Pemahaman Konsep Siswa Pada Materi Suhu Dan Kalor Kelas VII SMP
Understanding of students' concepts in general can be said to be still at a stage that has not been
maximized. Generally, students only focus on the material presented by the teacher without any effort
to understand it properly. This research aims to increase students' understanding using a contextual
teaching and learning (CTL) approach in class VII SMPN 6 Siak Hulu. The type of research uses a
quasi-experimental design with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The research population was
from class VII with a total of 173 students and the research sample as participants, which included 54
control and experimental classes. The class that was given the CTL treatment or contextual learning
was the experimental class and the class that applied to learning with a scientific approach (K13) was
the control class. Data were collected by administering a concept understanding test with 7 indicators
consisting of 18 objective test questions and 2 essay questions for summarizing indicators. The
research data were analyzed descriptively by determining the average value of the test results, while
the inferential analysis used an independent test. Based on the results of the research, it was found that
the average score on the concept comprehension test was higher for classes using the CTL approach
with moderate n-gain, and inferential there was a significant difference in increasing the
understanding of students who took lessons with the CTL approach. Therefore, the application of CTL
learning can improve the ability to understand concepts better for learning temperature and heat
material in class VII SMP.
