Pengaruh Etos Kerja Dan Komitmen Kepala Sekolah Terhadap Kepemimpinan Visioner Kepala SMP Se Kota Pekanbaru
Facing the era of globalization as it is today where changes occur in
various aspects of life very rapidly, not least in the field of education. The
influence of this development causes schools to be required to be able to compete
and develop in accordance with technological and scientific developments. To
meet these demands, schools are expected to have the ability to be able to
compete. Schools need a leader with extra abilities in order to compete with other
schools. The school leader is someone who has the ability to influence others with
the power he has, so that others act according to directions to achieve goals and
be able to compete. The ability to compete and achieve the vision and mission of
the school's goals is a type of visionary leadership. The principal in achieving the
school's vision, mission and goals requires a high work ethic and commitment to
make it easier to influence others.
This research will examine: (1) Is there a positive and significant influence
on the work ethic and commitment of school principals together on the visionary
leadership of junior high school principals in Pekanbaru City?; (2) Is there a
positive and significant influence on the principal's commitment to the visionary
leadership of SMP principals in Pekanbaru City?; and (3) Is there a positive and
significant effect of work ethic on the visionary leadership of junior high school
principals in Pekanbaru City?. The objectives of this research are: (1) To
determine and analyze the effect of work ethic and principal's commitment
together on the visionary leadership of junior high school principals in
Pekanbaru City; (2) To determine and analyze the effect of the principal's
commitment to the visionary leadership of junior high school principals in
Pekanbaru City; and (3) To find out and analyze the effect of work ethic on the
visionary leadership of junior high school principals in Pekanbaru City.
This study uses quantitative research methods with the type of Ex post fact.
The target or population in this study were the Principals of Junior High Schools
(SMP) in Pekanbaru City, amounting to 151 people. Then the number of samples
used in the study after being calculated by the Slovin formula was 110 people,
which were taken Cluster sampling. Furthermore, research trials were conducted
on 20 principals outside the research sample. The technique used in data
collection is a questionnaire or questionnaire. The techniques used to analyze the
data are descriptive statistical analysis techniques, inferential statistical analysis
and hypothesis testing with the help of the SPSS (statistical package for social
science) version 23 program.
The results of the study show that there is a positive and significant effect of
work ethic (X1) and commitment of the principal (X2) together on the visionary
leadership (Y) of junior high school principals in Pekanbaru City by 37.1%, there
is a positive and significant influence of work ethic (X1) on the visionary
leadership (Y) of junior high school principals in Pekanbaru City by 35.8%, and
finally there is a positive and not significant effect on the commitment of school

principals (X2) on the visionary leadership (Y) of SMP principals in Pekanbaru
City by 28.7%.
Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the work ethic and
commitment of the principal can determine whether the visionary leadership of
the principal is good or bad. A high work ethic will make the principal try to work
optimally and find the best solution when the school is experiencing difficulties.
Meanwhile, the principal's commitment will require the principal to always try to
make the school able to compete nationally and internationally. Without a work
ethic and commitment in carrying out the duties of the principal, it will be difficult
to develop the school. Then partially the work ethic can determine whether
visionary leadership is good or bad, and commitment can influence the principal's
visionary leadership but not as a whole. This means that whether there is a
principal's commitment, the visionary leadership of the principal remains good
.
