Rancang Bangun Dan Pengujian Mesin Produksi Bio-Coal Tipe Kontinu Tubular Berbahan Dasar Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit Dengan Kapasitas 5 Kg/Jam
ABSTRACT
Torefaction is a thermal treatment of biomass in the absence of oxygen for 15-60
minutes. Torefaction was chosen because the solid substance produced is 50-90% of
the initial biomass and the energy yield is 60-80% of the initial energy. The raw
material used is empty bunches of palm oil and the product of torefaction is bio-coal.
The torefaction method used is continuous tubular because it is suitable for small and
medium scale and the torefaction process can run continuously with a residence time
of 30 minutes. The purpose of this study is to design and make tubular continuous
torefaction machines and can produce bio-coal that has a calorific value equivalent
to coal. The dimensions of the resulting machine or reactor are Preactor = 1600 mm,
Diameterscrew = 144 mm, pitch screw = 75 mm, shaft diameter = 25 mm and screw
rotating speed = 0.53 rpm. The calorific value of bio-coal produced is 23,351 kJ / kg
at a torefaction temperature of 2000 C. Bio-coal produced is equivalent to subbituminous
type coal.
