ABSTRACT
The Batak tribe consists of six sub-tribes, one of which is the Batak Toba tribe. The Toba Batak people are known for their strong artistic and cultural values, such as dance and music. Toba Batak traditional music has very strong and distinctive playing values and characteristics. Toba Batak traditional musical instruments consist of many types, ranging from wind, string, picking, and percussion instruments. Toba Batak traditional music also has types. Interest in Toba Batak traditional music is also relatively high, this can be seen from the many types of Toba Batak traditional music which are increasingly developing with a blend of modern music, and also marked by the many local community bands that still use traditional Toba Batak musical instruments and still use traditional music. Toba Batak in every traditional event of the Toba Batak people. In the midst of the progress of the era and era, of course, it increasingly influences existing cultural values. Currently, Toba Batak traditional music has received less and less space and is losing to the development of modern music. The lack of facilities that can become a forum for lovers and activists of Toba Batak traditional music is feared to make this traditional music even more difficult to develop. From these problems, it is necessary to plan a place to accommodate Toba Batak traditional music activists. Not only in terms of music activists, but this plan will accommodate the general public to be able to learn and know Toba Batak traditional music. This plan is located in Balige District, Toba Regency, North Sumatra. The design of the Metaphor Architecture theme was applied to the design of the Toba Batak Traditional Music Facility in Balige with the aim of creating a building that is iconic and has cultural values that can be displayed and felt through this building.
