ABSTRACT
With the continued increase in rice productivity in Indonesia, it will certainly be comparable to the rice husks produced. The aim of the study was to use rice husks to reduce the weight of bricks, and to determine the effect of adding rice husks on the quality of red brick products, variations of rice husks on clay 0%, 2%, 4%, 6% and 8%. Making samples of brick test specimens using a press machine according to the size of 15x8x5.5 cm. Making bricks with a mixture of clay and rice husk, in the drying process in beds is carried out 2-7 days then traditional burning for 3 x 24 hours, then the physical and mechanical properties of the bricks are tested. Based on the test results, the appearance of bricks generally has an angle, flatness, flat areas and a loud sound and has a yellowish white color, size or dimensions with an average length of 144.9 mm, an average width of 76.5 mm. average thickness of 54.6 mm (close to Module 6, but the length and width are not according to SNI standards), apparent density values range from 1.51 - 1.59 gram/cm³, water absorption values range from 20% - 23% , the specific gravity value was obtained from 1.35-1.56 and the highest compressive strength value was obtained at the 2% variation, namely 46.5 kg/cm² and the lowest compressive strength value at the 8% variation, namely 14.5 kg/cm².
