Perancangan Sekolah Alam Di Kota Pekanbaru Dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Biofilik
ABSTRACT
The Natural School is one of the educational alternatives in Indonesia. The learning
methods offered by a natural school differ from those of conventional schools. In
conventional schools, the teaching method tends to be teacher-centered, where the
teacher acts as an authority figure delivering direct instruction to the students. This
approach can lead to passivity among the learners, as they are limited to observing
and listening. Natural schools, on the other hand, have a different instructional
pattern, with nature as the primary element in the learning process. Nature is also
used as an alternative learning resource due to its affordability and easy
accessibility. There are three specific aspects of the natural school model: nature
as a learning space, nature as a teaching medium and resource, and nature as a
subject of study. In natural schools, children are also educated to be more attentive
to their environment, which can enhance their empathy towards their surroundings.
The research methodology employed in this study is qualitative descriptive, utilizing
case studies, a combined strategic, and theoretical literature review to assess which
theories align with the design strategies. The chosen theme for the design of this
natural school is the Biophilic Architecture approach. The biophilic approach is a
suitable solution for the design strategy of a natural school. Biophilia is a concept
that connects humans with nature, creating an optimal environmental condition for
human well-being. This approach can also create a healthy learning environment
in schools, fostering positive mental development and supporting the learning
process for the students in natural schools.
