EXPERIENCE OF 1ST SEMESTER STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF RIAU IN IMPLEMENTED ONLINE HISTOLOGY PRACTICES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The COVID-19 pandemic was established in March 2020 and affected the education system. The learning system changed from face-to-face to online. The changes that have occurred can be seen at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau (FK UNRI), the learning system has begun to be carried out online starting from expert lectures, practicums and exams. Changes in the learning system, especially in the histology practicum at FK UNRI, certainly provide experienced and learning outcomes that are different from the learning system that was implemented before. Therefore, this study aims to find out the experiences of first semester students of the Faculty of Medicine of UNRI in online histology practicum during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research method is descriptive retrospective with quantitative and qualitative approaches. This study used the recorded values of cardiorespiratory histology practicum assessments and validated questionnaires with a sample of 152 respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of FK UNRI first semester students. The preparation of FK UNRI students in carrying out online histology practicums was in a fairly good category with 79 respondents (52%). The opinion of FK UNRI students regarding the implementation of online histology practicums was in a fairly good category with 98 respondents (64.5%). Understanding of online histology practicum material for FK UNRI students can be seen from the significant increase in the post-test and pre-test results. However, only 2 students passed the standard practicum exam scores. So, it can be concluded that students’ experience of the preparation and implementation of online histology practicums is in a fairly good category.
