Sejarah Museum Negeri Provinsi Riau Dan Pemanfaatannya (1975-2001)
The State Museum of Riau Province, which is currently better known as the Sang Nila
Utama Museum, is one of the museums in Indonesia that resulted from a museum development
program in each province through the Five Year Development Program (Pelita). The construction
of the first museum in Riau was included in the Pelita II program which was carried out in the
fiscal year 1974/1975 – 1978/1979 together with 25 other museums throughout Indonesia. The
initial construction of the museum began with the establishment of a History and Antiquities
Museum Section to assist the implementation of the museum development effort. The inauguration
of the Riau Province State Museum was inaugurated directly by the Director General of Culture
of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, namely Prof. Dr. Edi
Sedyawati on July 9, 1994. In its journey from 1975-2001 the State Museum of Riau Province
underwent many changes, both from physical and non-physical aspects to the use of the museum
other than as a place to preserve historical objects to as a place of learning for students. and the
wider community.
