ABSTRACT
This study examines the motivation of children to enter Islamic boarding schools in Pangkalan Kerinci. The purpose of this study was to determine the motivation of children to attend school at the Hidayatul Maarifiyah Islamic boarding school. This study used qualitative research methods. The theory used is the theory of Social Action from Talcott Parsons. Informants in this study totaled 10 people consisting of 5 children who were MTs students and 5 children of parents who came from outside the Riau area. The results of this study show that children's motivation to act in choosing a boarding school is more influenced by conditions. This happens because of certain situations and conditions that eventually the child chooses to go to school at the Hidayatul Maarifiyah Islamic boarding school.
