The incident of falling space debris in Indonesia has left many questions, especially regarding environmental and human security against the direct impact of falling space debris. Has there been any anticipation by the Indonesian government for incidents of falling space debris through the making of rules and policies, as well as what is Indonesia's position towards the applicable international regulations regarding this waste. However, in cases that occurred in Indonesia, especially in cases that occurred in Sanggau, West Kalimantan, until now there has been no follow-up for compensation efforts. This is intended as a legal control to protect the territory of Indonesia and the safety of the Indonesian people must be a step that is considered because the vast territory of Indonesia can create a high possibility of where the waste will fall.
The type of research used is normative legal research, normative legal research is a research process to examine and study law as norms, rules, legal principles, legal principles, legal doctrine, legal theory and other literature to answer the legal issues studied. In this study, researchers conducted research on procedures and forms of compensation for space debris that fell into Indonesia according to the 1972 Liability Convention.
Based on the results of the research problem it was found that: First, the regulation regarding the procedure for claims for compensation through applicable international law, then claims for compensation through diplomatic channels and the prosecution commission. The claim process is carried out through diplomatic channels between the countries involved to negotiate the amount of compensation, which must be in accordance with international law and the principles of justice and equality. Second, the form of compensation addressed to China in accordance with the losses suffered by Indonesia is restitution. Restitution made by China is to restore the original state before the damage that occurred in Indonesian territory.
