Pola Adaptasi Masyarakat Dalam Menghadapi Konflik Gajah Dengan Manusia Di Desa Semunai Kecamatan Pinggir Kabupaten Bengkalis Riau
Forest areas that are converted into other functions have a negative impact on the habitat of wild plants and animals, one of which is narrowing the habitat and space for animals to move. The Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) is an endangered animal. Sumatran elephants are very vulnerable to food availability and habitat disturbance, so their habitat needs to be protected. The rapid expansion of agricultural land, plantations, settlements, and industry has a direct impact on the loss of elephant habitat, causing human-elephant conflict. Human-elephant conflict has a detrimental impact on both humans and the elephants themselves. The purpose of this study was to determine the pattern of community adaptation to human-elephant conflict in Semunai Village. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data were collected by means of observation, interviews, and literature studies. Primary data was obtained from observations and interviews with 15 respondents who experienced human-elephant conflict using a purposive sampling method. The results showed that the pattern of adaptation carried out by the community was by providing torches or firecrackers at home on a regular basis, with a percentage of 66.7%. The adaptation pattern of replacing plant commodities is not carried out by the community because it can reduce the value of people's income.
