Pola Pergerakan Dan Wilayah Jelajah Gajah Sumatera (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus) Menggunakan Hasil Gps Collar Di Pocket Habitat Giam Siak Kecil Provinsi Riau
The distribution of sumatran elephants on the island of Sumatra is spread into several habitat areas including Riau. Riau province has 8 habitat pockets in 2016, one of which is the Giam Siak Kecil habitat pocket. The large number of land cover shifts into industrial plantations and plantations in the Giam Siak Kecil habitat pocket results in overlapping elephant and human activities, so it is necessary to conduct research in analyzing the movement patterns and use of sumatran elephant habitat space. This study aims to determine the movement patterns, home range, and preferred habitat of sumatran elephants. The method used in this study is based on recording one colony using GPS collar from June 2021 to June 2023 which is then processed using arcgis version 10.8 to determine the pattern of movement and home range area, then field observations are made to observe sumatran elephant habitat factors. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the home range area from June 2021 to June 2023 is 120.153,364 ha consisting of various types of land cover. The dominant sumatran elephant movement pattern is always the same and daily movements are irregular and random. Then the movement of sumatran elephants is always close to water sources and tends to stay away from roads. The characteristics of the habitat preferred by sumatran elephants have sufficient availability of food, water sources, salt. Has a crown from medium to tight and will choose a habitat that is safe from all forms of disturbance.
