Gambaran Karier Streptococcus pneumoniae Pada Populasi Dewasa Di Suku Akit Provinsi Riau
Streptococcus pneumoniae or also known as pneumococcus is a gram-positive bacterium that can asymptomatically colonize the upper human respiratory tract with potentially damaging effects. In this disease, children aged ≤5 years old and adults ≥65 years old are vulnerable. The formation of colonization is influenced by several factors simultaneously. These factors interact with each other, namely host, agent and environment factors. Based on this statement, it can be concluded that children aged ≤5 years old and adults ≥65 years old are vulnerable groups in the formation of pneumococcal colonization so this study aims to determine the prevalence of Streptococcus pneumoniae carriage in adults in the Suku Akit population, Riau. This study is a descriptive study with a cross sectional design, which is a research design that studies and emphasizes direct observation of data at the same time through interviews using questionnaires and nasopharyngeal swab examinations. The results showed that the prevalence of Streptococcus pneumoniae carriers was 8.5%. Most carriers were male, with ages ranging from 41-60 years. Some conditions that are thought to be associated with Streptococcus pneumoniae carriers include cigarette exposure, occupant density per house, occupant density per room, and contact with
