Sebaran dan Populasi Siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus) di Kawasan Cagar Alam Lembah Harau, Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota, Sumatera Barat
Siamang is one of the primate species in the Hylobatidae family that is widely distributed in Sumatra, both in lowland and hilly forests. The research aims to determine the distribution and population of siamang, as well as habitat factors that affect the distribution and population of siamang in the Lembah Harau Nature Reserve. The research uses two methods: exploration method and concentrated method. Data collected through the exploration method includes the coordinates of siamang encounters and the number of individuals in a group. The concentrated method collects data on temperature, humidity, gender, group size, age structure, and trees used by siamang for various activities such as playing, resting, and eating. The data is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results show that 34 siamang individuals in 9 groups were found in the Lembah Harau Nature Reserve. The siamang distribution pattern is in groups, with an average group size of 3.7 individuals ,with a male-female ratio of 1.6:1. Adult and adolescent males predominated, and no siamang infants were observed. Habitat factors that affect the distribution and population of siamang are the altitude of the place, the availability of food and water sources, and vegetation are used for playing and resting.
