Karakteristik Pengguna Rokok Elektrik Dan Gambaran Faal Paru Pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Riau
E-cigarettes are electrical devices used to heat liquid to produce aerosol. E-cigarettes are currently widely used by adolescents to adults worldwide, including in Indonesia. Electronic cigarettes have become an alternative for cigarette users. The use of electronic cigarettes is not entirely safer than conventional cigarettes. Several studies have shown that electronic cigarettes have had health impacts on lung health. One of these impacts is on lung volume and capacity. Smoking behavior is a risk factor for COPD. In patients with COPD, one supporting diagnostic variable is the finding of decreased lung capacity and volume obtained from spirometry examinations. In spirometry examinations, patients with COPD show obstructive results or find a FEV1/FVC ratio of less than 75% pred. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of electronic cigarette users and the lung function profile. This study was an observational study conducted from March to April 2024. The study was conducted using a questionnaire and spirometer. The questionnaire was distributed to the study population, and the spirometer was used on the research sample that met the inclusion criteria. The population in this study consisted of students from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau, cohorts 2021, 2022, and 2023, totaling 442 individuals. In this study, 34 electronic cigarette users were found. Electronic cigarette users were predominantly male and mostly aged 19 and 20 years old. It was found that most electronic cigarette users had been using them for more than 100 days, predominantly used fourth-generation electronic cigarettes, and used liquids containing nicotine more frequently. In this study, spirometry examinations were performed on the 34 research samples, and all spirometry results were normal.
