Prevalensi Kasus Penyakit Paru Obstruktif Kronis Yang Dirawat Di RSUD Arifin Achmad Sebelum Dan Selama Pandemi Covid-19
The COVID-19 pandemic affects COPD exacerbation cases. A number of studies
have found a decrease of around 50% in the number of patients hospitalized due
to COPD exacerbations during the pandemic. This is thought due to the impact of
implementing health protocols, as well as social effects. The aim of this study was
to determine the prevalence of hospitalized case for COPD at Arifin Achmad
General Hospital before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of this
research is analytical descriptive with a cross sectional approach. This study used
medical record data from March 2018 to February 2022. Medical records were
selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and then extracted based on
variables. There were 116 medical record data obtained in this study. From this
data, we found a total of 137 hospitalized cases in the period March 2018 to
February 2022, with the number of cases before the COVID-19 pandemic was
129 cases while the number of cases during the COVID-19 pandemic was 8 cases.
There was a decrease in hospitalized COPD cases between before and during the
COVID-19 pandemic by 121 cases or 93.8%. During the COVID-19 pandemic
(March 2020-February 2022) cases were balanced between productive and nonproductive
age groups, majority of cases were dominated by males, having nonrisk
jobs, heavy smokers, most comorbidities being cardiovascular diseases,
having moderate severity of COPD exacerbations and outcomes of discharged
with recovery/improvement. There was no difference in the severity of COPD
exacerbations and outcomes between before and during the COVID-19 pandemic
(P>0.05).
