Pengaruh Latihan Speed Ladder Drill Terhadap Kecepatan Lari 40 Yard Pada Siswa Yang Mengikuti Ekstrakurikuler Atletik SMK Pgri Pekanbaru
Among all types of sports, athletics is the oldest. Athletics comes from the word
"athlon", which means to race, and is a physical activity consisting of natural movements.
According to Munasifah (2008), current athletic events include running, jumping, throwing and
walking. Running is a progression from walking, which involves repeatedly taking steps to move
around. Running has a characteristic, namely a floating phase where the body does not touch the
ground. Sprinting is a race in which participants run at full speed over distances of 100 m, 200 m
and 400 m, relying on high speed from start to finish.
The ladder drill training method is used by many athletes to increase speed, using a tool
such as a ladder placed on the floor. Although these exercises take a long time to show good
results, which can bore novice athletes, coaches must find ways to keep athletes motivated.
At the Republic of Indonesia Teachers Association (PGRI) Vocational School there are
various extracurricular sports, including athletics with a focus on the 100 meter dash. Students
who take part in this activity have an athletic background and are guided by competent coaches.
Based on the researchers' observations, it was found that students who actively participated in the
100 meter sprint experienced problems such as less than optimal speed and stride length, which
reduced their running speed. To increase running speed, special exercises are needed such as
light sled/tire pulls, uphill speed run, parachute running, partner resisted starts, speed ladder drill,
falling star, and wall drill. Based on these problems, researchers are interested in examining the
effect of speed ladder drill training on increasing students' running speed. This exercise was
chosen because it is effective in increasing running frequency, lower body agility, and stride
length. Therefore, this research is entitled "The Effect of Speed Ladder Drill Training on 40 Yard
Sprint Running Speed in Students Who Participate in Extracurricular Athletics at PGRI
Pekanbaru Vocational School."
This research method uses a type of pre-experimental research that looks for cause and
effect from mutually continuous variables. This research was carried out from November 2023 to
May 2024 at the PGRI Pekanbaru Vocational School located at Jl. Brigadier General Katamso
No.46, North Tengkerang, Kec. Bukit Raya, Pekanbaru City, Riau. The research subjects were
students who took part in extracurricular athletics using a purposive sampling technique or
vii
sampling based on the characteristics of the researcher's needs. The instrument used was the 40
yard dash test. The data analysis used was using the Liliefors normality test and hypothesis
testing using the t distribution test.
The normality test was carried out using the Lilliefors test, the results of the pretest
normality test after the calculations resulted in a calculated L of 0.1289 and an L table of 0.258.
This means that L count is smaller than L table. It can be concluded that the distribution of
pretest data is normally distributed. To test the post-test data, Lcount was 0.2543, which was
smaller than Ltable 0.258. So it was concluded that the distribution of post-test data was
normally distributed.
Testing the proposed research hypothesis is in accordance with the problem, namely:
there is an influence of speed ladder drill training (x) with a 40 yard running speed (Y). Based on
the t test analysis, it produces Tcount of 11 and Ttable of 1.833. Ttable is obtained from the
degrees of freedom or degrees of freedom symbolized by (db) with the formula V = n-1, namely
10-1=9 (1.833) which is obtained from the t test table, so it can be concluded that Tcount >
Ttable and Ha is accepted, namely:
Ha: "There is an influence of speed ladder drill training (x) on the 40 yard running speed (y) of
students who take part in the athletics extracurricular at SMK PGRI Pekanbaru." It can be
concluded that there is an effect of speed ladder drill training (x) on 40 yard running speed (y) in
students who take part in the athletics extracurricular at PGRI Pekanbaru Vocational School,
with an α level of 0.05 with a confidence level of 95%.
