Lignin is a natural polymer that was soluble in water and had active groups such as carboxyl, hydroxyl, and methoxy. Aerogel is a solid material with a three-dimensional structure that had high porosity and formed from hydrogel, which was held together by a small portion of hydrophilic polymer chains and cross-links that form a network and was then processed through freeze drying. This research aims to isolate lignin from TKKS black liquor, form PVA/Lignin aerogel, and determine adsorption ability of isotherm models, and adsorption kinetics. The formation of PVA/Lignin hydrogel using the cross-linking method using glutaraldehyde and the formation of PVA/Lignin aerogel using the freeze-drying method with variations in the weight of lignin to PVA, namely 5%, 10%, and 15% (w w-1). Characterization of isolated lignin and PVA/Lignin aerogel using FTIR to analyze the functional groups contained therein, SEM-EDX to analyze the morphology and composition of a material. The results of FTIR characterization of isolated lignin and PVA/Lignin aerogel show that there are functional groups OH, CH2, C=O, C-H, aromatic C=C, S=O, and C=C. SEM-EDX results from lignin isolation show the presence of C, O, Na, Si, and S elements, and SEM results from PVA/Lignin aerogel show the existence of interconnected porous structures due to physical cross-linking and the freeze-drying method. Optimum adsorption occurs at a pH variation of 10, an adsorbent dose of 0.04 g, an concentration of methylene blue of 50 mg L-1 and a contact time of 150 minutes with adsorption efficiency values of 99.42% respectively. The adsorption isotherm model follows the Dubinin-Radushkevich with a value of R2 value of 0.9839, which can be assumed that physisorption interactions occur from an average free energy value of 0.95 kJ mol-1. The adsorption kinetics follow the second-order pseudo equation, with a value of R2 = 0.9999 and k2 = 0.0222 g mg-1 min-1.
