Perancangan Youth Shelter Dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Biophilic Di Pekanbaru
The presence of street children in Pekanbaru is quite concerning. The issues surrounding street children have been escalating each year. The causes of the presence of street children are often linked to poverty and domestic violence. This situation forces many children to leave their safe zones to meet their economic needs. In such conditions, children working informally in urban areas are vulnerable to exploitation, violence, drug addiction, and sexual abuse. Therefore, it is necessary to address the issue of street children by establishing a Youth Shelter as a place for them to stay, find refuge, learn, develop, and recover their mental health. This Youth Shelter will be equipped with facilities such as learning rooms, creative spaces, rest areas, playrooms, and rehabilitation rooms. The design of this Youth Shelter applies the theme of "Biophilic Architecture," which can provide healing for street children who have experienced family violence and mental health disorders due to the adverse effects of living on the streets. Biophilic Architecture can also help improve concentration as humans are generally more productive when in natural environments. Hence, the design of the Youth Shelter for street children utilizes Biophilic Architecture, leveraging nature to create productive spaces that can enhance the creativity and productivity of street children.
