THE ROLE OF WOMEN INFORMAL SECTOR WORKERS IN IMPROVING THE FAMILY ECONOMY

ABSTRACT
In general, in a family, the main role in fulfilling economic needs is the husband, and the wife has a role in the domestic realm, namely carrying out household activities, but now, along with progress in the economic sector, various phenomena have emerged in society, one of which is the phenomenon of increasing women who enter the public sphere by becoming informal sector workers, for example street vendors. Pekanbaru is one of the cities in Riau Province which is at the center of the economy. This is also in line with the development of the informal sector. One of the areas which is the center of informal sector activity in Pekanbaru City is Jalan Suka Karya, Sialang Munggu Subdistrict, along which the road is filled with street vendors and some merchants. the five feet are women. The aim of the research is to look at the activities and find out the contribution of women informal sector workers (Female Street Vendors) on Jalan Suka Karya in helping improve the family economy using James Coleman's Rational Choice theory approach. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The results of this research show the daily activities of female street vendors in trading and carrying out their duties as housewives and show the contribution of female street vendors in improving the family economy by increasing family income, savings and helping to fulfill the daily needs of the female traders' families street vendors with their income.
