Types Of Metaphor In Tennyson’s Poetries For Efl Learners
Metaphors enrich literature teaching by enhancing students' understanding of
language and evoking emotions. The research, "Types of Metaphor in Tennyson’s
Poetries for EFL Learners," aims to find out types of metaphor in Tennyson’s poetries
for EFL learners. The researcher serves as both the data collector and interpreter in
qualitative research, acting as a reporter for the research results. In this study, the
instrument used is lines of poetry from Tennyson's selected works. The researcher
analyzes the data by interpreting the metaphors found within the poetries. The
analysis includes the types of metaphors employed within the poetry, as well as the
classification of metaphors utilized by the researcher themselves. The categorization
of types of metaphors was established by Lakoff and Johnson (2003) into three types:
Structural metaphors, Orientational metaphors, and Ontological metaphors. The
researcher identified many metaphors within the poems, including 21 structural
metaphors, 0 orientational metaphors, and 14 ontological metaphors. They help ELF
learners, including researchers, grasp Tennyson's intended messages. . Students and
readers are advised to have a thorough understanding of metaphors. The metaphor is
easily comprehensible, captivating to peruse, and aesthetically pleasing to articulate.
