Pengetahuan Masyarakat Lokal Terhadap Pelestarian Rafflesia (Rafflesia Arnoldii) Di Cagar Alam Batang Palupuh Sumatra Barat
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) highlights that most species of Rafflesia are endangered, hence the need for conservation and protection efforts. In sustainable forest management and conservation efforts, local communities living around the forest need to be involved. For this purpose, an understanding of their knowledge and awareness of these protected natural resources is required. The research was conducted in Jorong Batang Palupuh in August 2023. This study aims to determine the level of the local community's knowledge about Rafflesia (Rafflesia arnoldii) and its conservation status in the Batang Palupuh Natural Reserve, West Sumatra. This study used a descriptive quantitative method. Data were collected through closed interviews using questionnaires, field observations, and documentation studies, with a sample size of 71 respondents selected through random sampling. Data were analyzed with descriptive quantitative. The results showed that the majority (88%) of respondents from the local community in Jorong Batang Palupuh have good knowledge of Rafflesia arnoldii and its conservation status. However, there is still limited understanding regarding the life cycle of Rafflesia arnoldii and knowledge about the forest area. Therefore, efforts to conserve Rafflesia arnoldii in the Batang Palupuh Natural Reserve need to bridge the knowledge gap of the local community and raise their awareness.
