The background of this research is based on the author's observations regarding the high level of drug abuse by women in the city of Pekanbaru. The author conducted a study of drug abuse convicts who are serving sentences at Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Perempuan Klass IIA Pekanbaru. The aim of this research is to find out the background of women in committing drug abuse and to find out the impact and awareness of women who abuse drugs after becoming prisoners. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. In determining research informants, the author used a purposive sampling technique where the informants included criteria that the researcher had determined based on the research objectives. The results of this research are supported by differential association theory and the results show that women who abuse drugs, whether they are users or dealers, are due to the influence of the social environment, apart from that, drug use by women falls into the category of functional use in the form of recreational and as doping. There is awareness and remorse among women who abuse drugs due to the impact they feel while serving their sentence. The author's hope is that this research can contribute to efforts to overcome drug abuse by women and can increase women's awareness of the bad effects of drugs.
