Status Kesuburan Perairan Pesisir Dumai Berdasarkan Kelimpahan Perifiton
Periphyton are microorganisms that grow and attach to the submerged substrate but do not penetrate into the substrate. The purpose of this study was to determine the trophic state of Dumai coastal waters based on periphyton type. This research was conducted in April-May 2023 in Dumai Coastal Waters, Dumai City, Riau Province. The method used was survey method. There were three sampling stations, namely S1 behind the UNRI campus (there are residence and mangrove areas), S2 at Purnama Beach (tourist destination), and S3 in the fishing village (residential areas). The substrate used was paralon pipe (8x6) cm2. Periphyton substrate planting was done a week before sampling. Sampling was conducted 3 times once/week. Periphyton samples were obtained by brushing the surface of the substrate with a fine brush while spraying distilled water. Periphyton samples were preserved with 1% lugol solution and then identified by Matthews (2016) and Wehr and Sheath (2003).Waterquality parametersmeasured wereperiphyton abundance, transparency, current velocity, temperature, pH, DO, free CO2, nitrate, phosphate, and salinity. Theresults shown therewere18 species consisting of 5 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (10 species), Chlorophyceae (5 species), Cyanophyceae (2 species), and Trebouxiophyceae (1 species). The abundance of periphyton found ranged from 910 cells/cm2 - 1554 cells/cm2. The most common type of periphyton found was Skeletonema sp. Water quality parameters were as follows: transparency 40.1 - 49.3 cm, current speed 0.084 - 0.13 m/s, temperature 29 - 31 °C, pH 6.9 - 7.1, DO 4.11 - 5.51, free CO2 7.25 - 17.78, nitrate 0.091 - 0.099, phosphate 0.143 -0.157, salinity 25.3 - 28‰. Based on the types of periphyton found, it can be concluded that the Dumai Coastal Waters was mesotrophic waters.
