Hubungan Karies Gigi Terhadap Kualitas Hidup Pada Anak di SDN 004 Teratak Buluh Kecamatan Siak Hulu Kabupaten Kampar
Dental caries is a prevalent oral health issue globally and can significantly impact the quality of life in children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the prevalence of dental caries among school-aged children worldwide is estimated to range between 60% and 90%. In Indonesia, the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) reported a prevalence rate of 88.8% among children. This study aims to examine the relationship between dental caries and quality of life in children attending SDN 004 Teratak Buluh, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency, including symptoms such as oral pain, difficulty chewing hard foods, sleep disturbances, and difficulty concentrating in class. The research utilized an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 55 students from grades IV to VI were selected through random sampling based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection involved dental caries examinations using observation sheets and assessments of quality of life through the OHIP-14 questionnaire.The findings revealed that 80% of the respondents experienced dental caries, with the highest incidence observed among male students (61.8%) and those aged 11 years (47.7%). Most children with dental caries reported a poor quality of life (67.3%), characterized by functional limitations, physical discomfort, and psychological distress. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between dental caries and quality of life (p < 0.05).
