Penerapan Pembelajaran Ipa-Fisika Berbasis Aktivitas Nelayan Pesisir Untuk Meningkatkan Literasi Sains Pada Materi Usaha Dan Energi Siswa Kelas VIII SMPN 4 Dumai
The development of science and technology in the 21st century is very rapid, where technology is widespread in various aspects of life, especially in the world of education. To keep up with the development of science and technology, students must be able to understand technological developments and use them wisely. Based on PISA 2018 data, it can be seen that the scientific literacy skills of Indonesian students are still below average when compared to the average international score. Low scientific literacy causes students to be less responsive to developments and problems in the environment, especially those related to natural phenomena, local regional advantages, and problems in the surrounding environment. Dumai, which is one of the coastal areas where most of the people work as fishermen. For students in Dumai City, especially in coastal areas, of course, fishing activities are very close and representative activities in everyday life. Therefore, research was conducted with the application of science-physics learning based on coastal fishermen's activities in an effort to improve scientific literacy skills.
This study aims to describe the scientific literacy skills of eighth grade students after the implementation of coastal fishermen's activity-based science-physics learning on the material of effort and energy and to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of coastal fishermen's activity-based science-physics learning in improving the scientific literacy skills of eighth grade students of SMPN 4 Dumai. This study uses a quasi-experimental research type with a non-equivalent posttest only control group design. The population in this study included all eighth grade students at SMPN 4 Dumai, which were then selected into 2 class groups, each consisting of 2 classes selected after conducting normality tests and secondary data homogeneity tests. After testing, 4 classes were selected as samples in this study, namely classes VIII.1, VIII.4, VIII.7, and VIII.9. To determine the experimental group and control group, a lottery was conducted and the results obtained were classes VIII.1 and VIII.4 as experimental groups that received treatment in the form of coastal fishermen's activity-based science-physics learning, while classes VIII.7 and VIII.9 as control groups were given conventional learning. The research data were collected by administering a science literacy test after implementing the learning of work and energy material in the two class groups that were given different treatments. This test was compiled based on the PISA 2015 science literacy ability indicators, consisting of 3 indicators that were described in 20 items with 4 multiple choices. The research data obtained came from the posttest results which were processed quantitatively and displayed in diagrams and tables to see the increase in science literacy ability between the control class group and the experimental class group which were analyzed using the T-Test.
The descriptive results of the study showed that the experimental class group had a higher average science literacy ability score compared to the control class group. While the inferential results of the study using the T-Test obtained significance or sig. (2-tailed)
