Kinerja Kombinasi Biokoagulan Biji Durian (Durio Zhibethinus) Dan Koagulan Anorganik (Tawas) Terhadap Pengolahan Air Limbah Laundry
Alum (Aluminum sulfate) is one of the chemicals commonly used in the coagulation process. However, alum has a negative impact on the environment so that biocoagulants need to be used to minimize the impact. Durian seeds (Durio zibethinus) have active components in the form of protein and starch that can act as environmentally safe biocoagulants. This study aims to determine the performance of a combination of biocoagulants processed by wet grinding with synthetic coagulants (alum) to treat pinatu wastewater. Biocoagulant characterization is carried out by identifying functional groups, water content, ash content, protein content and starch content. Determining the effectiveness of the performance of a combination of durian seed biocoagulants with alum in a ratio of 1:1; 2:1; 3:1; 1:2 and 1:3 (w/w) at pH variations (5, 6, 7, 8 and 9) against laundry wastewater. Coagulation was observed using a jar floc test on laundry wastewater in removing color, turbidity, TDS, TSS and phosphate. The results of FTIR analysis of durian seed biocoagulant and alum showed the presence of O-H, C-N, C-H, C-O, and C-C functional groups (indicating the presence of protein and starch) and the presence of S=O, Al-O, O-H (aluminum sulfate) groups. The protein content of durian seed biocoagulant was 0.12% and the starch content was 19.1904%. Determination of the effectiveness of the performance of the combination of durian seed biocoagulant with alum was determined from the results of the analysis of laundry wastewater after coagulation, sedimentation time and the amount of sludge produced. The performance of the combination of durian seed biocoagulant and alum (2:1) at pH (5) was the most effective in treating laundry wastewater. The performance of this biocoagulant was able to remove 79.49% of color, 72.26% of turbidity, 8.44% of TDS, 80.76% of TSS and 79.20% of phosphate. The sedimentation time of laundry wastewater obtained was 53 minutes with a mud volume of 1.5 mL. The results of the study showed that the quality of laundry wastewater had met the test parameters in the regulations of the Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017 and PP No. 22 of 2021 such as TDS, TSS and phosphate parameters, but the color and turbidity parameters of laundry wastewater had not met these regulations.
