Analisis Keberlanjutan Usahatani Padi Sawah Dalam Upaya Mendukung Ketahanan Pangan Di Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi
Indonesia, as an agrarian country, has a high dependency on the agricultural sector. Kuantan Singingi District, as one of the main producers of paddy in Riau Province, has significant potential to support national food security. However, this sector faces various challenges, including climate change, pest attacks, and plant diseases, which can disrupt paddy production and the welfare of farmers. Therefore, analyzing the sustainability of paddy farming is crucial to ensure sustainable food security. The sustainability analysis consists of five dimensions: economic, socio-cultural, ecological, technological, and institutional. The aims of this research are: 1) to describe the paddy farming system in Kuantan Singingi District; 2) to analyze the food security of paddy farming households in Kuantan Singingi District; 3) to analyze the sustainability status of paddy farming in Kuantan Singingi District from the perspective of the five dimensions.
This research was conducted in three out of fifteen sub-districts in Kuantan Singingi District: Kuantan Tengah, Gunung Toar, and Kuantan Mudik. The population of the study is 5,648 individuals, and using Slovin's formula, a sample of 100 paddy farmers was obtained. The sampling method used was proportional stratified random sampling. The analysis employed both qualitative and quantitative methods. The data analysis techniques used in this study include descriptive analysis, Likert scale, and Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) using the Rapfish application.
The research findings indicate that the analysis of seven indicators of paddy farming in Kuantan Singingi District shows varied results. Indicators such as the use of superior seeds, pest and disease control, post-harvest handling, and marketing are categorized as high (above 80 percent). Land processing is rated as moderate. The dependency on rain-fed systems presents a major challenge in irrigation management, impacting productivity. Although 88 percent of farmers apply fertilization, the implementation according to recommendations is still not optimal.
The level of food security among paddy farming households in Kuantan Singingi District is categorized as high. This is reflected in the indicators of food subsistence levels, food accessibility, and food expenditure shares, all rated high. The sustainability status of paddy farming in Kuantan Singingi District is categorized as less sustainable, with a score of 47,16. The economic dimension shows a status of moderately sustainable, while the socio-cultural, ecological, technological, and institutional dimensions are categorized as less sustainable. There are 31 attributes within the five dimensions of sustainability, with 12 sensitive attributes.
Overall, food security in Kuantan Singingi Regency is relatively high. However, the analysis of the sustainability of lowland rice farming is considered less sustainable. This condition occurs due to different indicators. This shows that even though food is available, some agricultural systems are not managed in a
way that supports long-term sustainability or do not comply with the recommendations for good agricultural systems.
