Executive Summary Rancangan Pabrik Maleic Anhydride Proses Benzene Oxidation Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Maleic Anhydride (T-302)
ABSTRACT
Maleic anhydride, as a primary material in the production of various chemical products, is most commonly used in the manufacture of unsaturated polyester resins, thus falling into the category of basic chemical products. Basic chemical products are chemicals used as main raw materials in various industrial processes. It is estimated that the production of maleic anhydride will increase significantly to 3.65 million tons by 2030. Maleic anhydride is commercially produced by the catalytic oxidation of benzene in the gas phase. The maleic anhydride plant is planned to be located in Cilacap, Central Java, which is close to the primary raw material supplier, benzene, produced by Pertamina RU-IV Cilacap.
The production process of maleic anhydride using the HSD fixed-bed process has several advantages, including ease of operation, lower investment, and higher yield of maleic anhydride. The plant utilities, namely water and electricity, are provided by a water treatment system and an electricity supply system with capacities of 34,680,700 liters/hour and 2,490.53 kW, respectively. Liquid waste treatment is carried out through membrane processes, chemical treatment, carbon adsorption, and ion exchange. The plant's instrumentation includes sensors and controllers equipped with safety equipment such as alarms, pressure safety valves, check valves, gate valves, hand control valves, vents, and anti-surge control valves.
Profitability analysis of the maleic anhydride plant with the benzene oxidation process includes breakeven point (BEP), Return on Investment (ROI), payback period (PBP), net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and sensitivity analysis. The BEP, ROI, PBP, NPV, and IRR values for the maleic anhydride plant are 40,32%, 15%, 4.7 years, IDR 748.878.247.784,61, and 20%, respectively. The sensitivity analysis indicates that changes in raw material costs do not significantly affect the net present value, meaning that the NPV remains stable despite fluctuations in raw material costs. However, changes in product prices and production costs significantly impact the NPV. Based on comparisons with projects conducted by UNIDO, the proposed maleic anhydride plant excels economically and, therefore, is highly feasible for establishment.
