Efektivitas Pembelajaran Termodinamika Menggunakan Laboratorium Virtual Phet Untuk Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Siswa Kelas Xi Sma
Physics learning should reflect the nature of science, which includes products, processes, and scientific attitudes. Through direct experience, students can construct, understand, and apply concepts holistically, authentically, and applicatively to solve problems. In physics, thermodynamics is an essential topic related to energy, mathematical in nature, containing abstract concepts, and highly complex. However, the lack of laboratory facilities in schools often hinders students' understanding, resulting in low learning outcomes. One solution to overcome this issue is utilizing continuously evolving technology. One such medium that can assist students and teachers in learning thermodynamics is the PhET virtual laboratory.
The purpose of this study is to describe students' learning outcomes in thermodynamics using the PhET virtual laboratory. The second objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of learning thermodynamics using the PhET virtual laboratory in improving student learning outcomes.
This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 5 Pekanbaru during the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, with the population consisting of all 11th-grade students. The sample in this study was students from class XI Engineering 1 as the experimental class and XI Engineering 2 as the control class, with a total of 70 students. The research method used was a quasi-experimental study with a posttest-only non-equivalent control group design. The data collection method involved administering a posttest after the treatment. The research instrument used was a written test on Thermodynamics, consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions based on cognitive learning indicators C1-C5 and learning objective indicators. The learning outcomes were then analyzed using descriptive and inferential analysis.
Descriptive analysis of student learning outcomes showed that students who learned using PhET had an average score of 70.2, which was higher than those who learned using conventional methods, with an average score of 56.5. Inferential
analysis also indicated a significant difference between students who learned using PhET and those who learned using conventional methods.
Based on the research findings after conducting thermodynamics learning in class XI Engineering at SMA Negeri 5 Pekanbaru, the use of PhET for thermodynamics learning was found to be effective in improving student learning outcomes. Therefore, the author recommends PhET as an alternative innovative medium for physics learning, particularly for thermodynamics in schools.
