Makna Simbolik Tradisi Mandai Ulu Taon Di Desa Rambah Tengah Barat Kecamatan Rambah Kabupaten Rokan Hulu
one of the Mandailing communities in Rambah Tengah Barat Village still carries out the tradition passed down by their ancestors, namely the Mandai Ulu Taon tradition. The community that plays an important role in this tradition is the Napitu Huta community (seven villages) with the Mandailing surname. This research was conducted in Rambah Tengah Barat Village, Rambah District, Rokan Hulu Regency which aims to determine the cultural values contained in the Mandai Ulu Taon tradition and to determine the symbolic meaning contained in the Mandai Ulu Taon tradition for the people of Rambah Tengah Barat Village. The research subjects used the Purposive Sampling technique. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research method. Data collection uses in-depth interview techniques, observation, documentation. The number of research subjects is two key informants and four informants who play an active role in implementing the Mandai Ulu Taon tradition in Rambah Tengah Barat Village. The results of this study show that the values contained are in the form of mutual cooperation, family values, so that from these values norms emerge in order to create order in implementation. The symbols contained in the tradition are symbols of prayer as an expression of gratitude to the Creator for the completion of the post-harvest rice, symbols in the Mandai Ulu Taon tradition can also be seen in Bagas Rarangan, the last trace of Boru Namora Suri Andung Jati, the determination of Wednesday, beating the ogung, slaughtering white village chickens, giving yellow rice with roast chicken, and continuing with eating together using plates made of banana leaves. This tradition is carried out at the beginning of the year on Wednesday of the fourth month with a meal together for all the people present
