Tapung Kiri River is one of the rivers located in Kampar and Rokan Hulu Regencies, part of the Siak River upstream. There are settlements, sand mining activities, and oil palm plantations in the riverbank area, which can cause river water pollution. This study aims to determine the existing condition of Tapung Kiri River water quality, identify pollution loads, and determine the quality status of water quality using the Pollution Index (IP). Parameters to calculate the quality status are Temperature, pH, TSS, DO, BOD, COD, Nitrate, Total Phosphate and Total Coliform. Parameters to calculate the pollution load include TSS, BOD, COD, Nitrate, and Total Phosphate. This research was conducted from August to October 2024 in Tapung Kiri River, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. The research method used was the survey method. Samples were analysed physically, chemically, and biologically. Water samples were taken three times, including parameters of temperature, brightness, current speed, pH, DO, BOD, COD, TSS, Total Phosphate, Nitrate, and Total Coliform. The water quality of Tapung Kiri River was compared with the quality standard according to Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia (PPRI) Number 22 of 2021 class II. The results showed that the average water quality met the class II quality standards, except for Total Coliform. The IP results show that the Tapung Kiri River falls into the unpolluted to moderately polluted category with a value of 0.74-6.89. Calculation of Pollution Load (BP) shows that the actual load of all parameters is still lower than the maximum pollution load that can be accommodated by the Tapung Kiri River. The results of this study indicate that these water bodies are subjected to anthropogenic activities and untreated waste streams. As the water quality is good to moderately polluted, these water bodies should be properly managed and conservation efforts should be made.
