This research examines the reasons why someone clarifies their status as a waria and
the obstacles and efforts to maintain the existence of waria so that their presence can
be well accepted in society. This research method is qualitative, data collection is
carried out by observation, interviews and documentation. The subjects in this
research were 5 transgender people in the city of Bengkalis. The aim of this research
is to find out the causes of someone clarifying their status as waria and to find out the
obstacles and efforts of waria in maintaining their existence in society. The results of
this research show the reason why a person believes in clarifying their status as a
waria is because apart from the traits they are born with, the more dominant cause is
found in the family environment itself, seen from the waria who admitted that it was
their parents' upbringing and upbringing that made them determined to change their
appearance, The lack of support from the surrounding environment also greatly
influences the process of waria to find their true identity and the obstacles that waria
encounter in maintaining their existence include social demands, social pressure and
discrimination as well as the efforts made by waria to maintain their existence among
those who have the same characteristics. friendly, polite in speaking, always
participating in community activities and several waria are active in developing their
own potential so that the shortcomings that waria have can be covered by the
advantages that waria have
