Perancangan Bioskop Modern Dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Neo-Vernakular Di Bukittinggi
ABSTRACT
Cinema is an increasingly popular entertainment facility that offers film-viewing experiences with large-screen visuals and high-quality audio. In Indonesia, cinemas have evolved for over 124 years, with modern cinema chains such as Cinema 21, CGV Cinemas, and Cinepolis providing advanced viewing experiences. Bukittinggi, a major tourist destination in West Sumatra, holds significant potential for developing entertainment facilities, including cinemas. In the 1980s, Bukittinggi had three cinemas: Eri, Sovia, and Gloria. However, only Eri Cinema remains in operation today, limited to screening classic films. Currently, the city lacks a modern cinema, requiring residents to travel to Padang to access such facilities. The design of a modern cinema in Bukittinggi is expected to bring positive impacts to the local community by creating job opportunities and enhancing the city’s appeal as a tourist destination. Additionally, the cinema can serve as a communal space for social interaction. The design adopts a Neo-Vernacular architectural approach, blending traditional and modern elements. This approach aims to preserve the essence of local culture while offering a relevant modern touch. As such, the cinema serves not only as an entertainment facility but also as a symbol that strengthens Bukittinggi’s cultural identity and tourism appeal.
