Perancangan Museum Maritim Kepulauan Riau Di Pulau Bintan Dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Tepian Air
ABSTRACT
Indonesia, as an archipelagic country with a vast water area called maritime territory, has been recognized by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as a maritime country since 1982. This recognition aims to confirm the guarantee of Indonesia's maritime potential and strength. Among the provinces adjacent to maritime areas in Indonesia, the Riau Islands province is one of the most interesting. Bintan Island, which is part of the Riau Islands, plays an important role in the maritime sector in the province. Bintan Island is a coastal area with cultural diversity and progress in the maritime economy due to its strategic geographical position. This strategic position is supported by the areas bordering Bintan Island, namely Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia. Bintan Island, which is rich in maritime history, is evidence of the close relationship between local communities and the sea which is a source of livelihood and cultural identity. To preserve maritime history and heritage, an adequate container is needed. The Maritime Museum is the solution to meet these needs by increasing public awareness and appreciation of the maritime culture of Bintan Island. This design aims to 1) identify important facilities for the Maritime Museum, 2)analyze the application of waterfront architecture principles in its design, and 3) formulate a coherent design concept that is in line with these principles. The Maritime Museum uses the Historical Study design method which concept is the see, learn and preserve. Historical Study focuses on observation, learning, and preservation that connects past heritage and current architectural design. This method aims to reintegrate historical heritage into the design as a functional maritime education and recreation container. This will strengthen the role of the museum as a maritime education and recreation space, which encourages community involvement and environmental conservation. The proposed Maritime Museum on Bintan Island is not only intended as a storage space for maritime artifacts, but also as an interactive public space that fosters awareness and appreciation of local maritime culture, creates a bridge between the past and the present, while increasing the potential for regional tourism.
