Penerapan Arsitektur Simbolik Pada Galeri Kerajinan Songket Di Kota Pekanbaru
ABSTRACT
Indonesia has a wealth of diverse arts and cultures in each of its regions, including Riau Province which is famous for traditional crafts such as songket weaving, batik, wood carving, embroidery, weaving, and tekat. Riau Malay songket weaving is part of local MSMEs as well as one of the leading products in Pekanbaru. This fabric is often used in official government events and traditional events, such as weddings, and has even been marketed to foreign countries. However, its development is still hampered by the limited number of entrepreneurs and the lack of supporting facilities, such as production centers and galleries. The application of symbolic architecture in this gallery aims to reflect the cultural and historical values of songket through the design of spaces and facilities. This approach not only enriches the visual experience, but also encourages people’s interest in cultural heritage. The design method at the Songket Craft Gallery uses the case study method and combined strategies. This method begins by identifying existing problems as the initial stage in carrying out the design process, namely considering the lack of facilities to accommodate local songket artisans in songket development. The next stage is data collection as a background and problems in design through case studies and field data. The use of the concept of “motif songket” in this gallery creates a space that is able to convey the meaning and story contained in these motifs. This concept is applied to the formation of buildings, facades, interiors, and sites.
